Genesis Youth Foundation (GYF) is pleased to announce the dates for our annual Ubuntu Youth Leadership Summit, which has been scheduled for June 11, 2022 from 9am to 4pm at the Genesis Youth Foundation Center in the Hope+Elim Building. The theme for this year’s session of Ubuntu Leadership Training workshops is career exploration and job readiness.  

 

In preparation for the one-day Ubuntu Leadership Summit, GYF will be facilitating Leadership Workshops for students on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings in May beginning May 13. Friday evening workshops will be held from 5:30pm to 8pm and Saturday workshops begin at 10:00am and go until 1:00pm. Students in middle school, high school and college are highly encouraged to participate in the training sessions.

In accordance with the theme of job readiness, student participants will earn a $20 incentive stipend per daily session attended. Students who attend every Friday and Saturday session from May 13 through May 28 will earn $120. During these training sessions, GYF will provide a safe and fun learning environment along with food and drinks. Transportation will also be provided for those living in the Johnston, Urbandale and Des Moines School districts. 

Students should come prepared to learn and will begin to see themselves as leaders within their communities. Youth who demonstrate positive attitude towards learning and leadership will have the opportunity to apply for paid Peer Educator Positions with Genesis Youth Foundation. GYF Peer Educators are youth who demonstrate leadership skills and can share their lived experiences as they mentor kids to be become productive citizens and community leaders. Topics of the workshop include:

• Time Management and Professionalism

• College Prep

• Budgeting and Financial Literacy

• Interview Skills

• Resume Building
   

Who is Invited: Middle, high school, and college students
 

When:  Leadership Workshops on Friday on May 13, 20, and 27 from 5:30pm to 8:00pm
               and Saturdays from 10:00am to 1:00pm on May 14, 21, and 28
